I believe the spirit was "Hey, this is some interesting reading" and not "Buy this if you like it". In any case, I found the piece very interesting, enjoyed the chuckle, and do not feel any action other than a "Thank You" is due towards Earl. Besides, we send bits of spam to one another all the time on the Spam lists, with "how do you stop this" or "look at the new technique".
