I've made two trips to the Bahamas with my K3. I travel with with the radio and switching power supply in my roll-aboard suit-case, using my clothes as the padding. At worst the TSA agents have removed the radios and swabbed them for explosives. About 50% of the time, they go through with just an x-ray.
Some of the TSA guys are familiar with amateur radio, as they are using MARS as for back-up communications; we've given several VE tests in the Albany area for TSA staff as a pre-cursor to MARS licensing. BTW, there is even less of a fuss from the customs folks in the Bahamas. Almost all of them have heard of ham radio and may even be able to point out the active operators on the islands.
