With respect to AC mains power standard, Tom Edison set the standard voltage (DC) at a nice even number 100 volts, plus 10% allowance for IR drop, yielding 110V, or so I recall reading.
Over the years, the 'norm' has crept up to 115V, 117.5V and 120V. It's typically 122 to 123V at my QTH.
