If the K3 detects it is drawing too much current in receive mode, it disconnects the right speaker channel to help prevent damage. That is the relay you heard click. It also sets SPKRS=1 to indicate it has disconnected the right channel speaker. The most common cause of over-current in receive mode is the speaker amplifier driving a short of some kind.
