Rich, I don't know your specifics, but I can say that many USB to serial adapters do not work well with the K2 (and its accessories). The baud rate of 4800 does not work well with a lot of adapters - they work better at higher speeds. I recently could not get my K2 to fully connect with Ham Radio Deluxe using a Prolific chip adapter because of this limitation. A real serial port works just fine.
I might add that Jack Brindle is working on a problem with the KRC2 configurator right now.
