     Thanks for the comment. I was unaware of this. There is a (barely) 
detectable warmth to the side panel of my K3 with the rig set on a band 
other than 2 (the rest of it, excepting the front panel, is cool), so 
you could well be right.

     I had hoped that one of the Elecraft Elves would comment on both of 
my queries.

     With regard to the power issue, I should have asked Santa for the 
external xvtr with its higher output. I have found (by measuring) that 
the TE 1452G is slightly peaked at the FM end of the band, though what 
one would want with 350 watts in Repeaterville I have no idea. 
Re-tweaking the TE looks to be the best solution to the drive problem.
