Jim,

The K3 has many elements that are computer-like, and those processes 
must be shut down in proper sequence.  The power switch accomplishes 
that feat nicely.
If you turn off the power supply, it is like pulling the plug, and the 
K3 will be turned off, but you may find a problem when you try to turn 
it on again because some bits get scrambled.

Would you turn off your computer by pulling the plug?  Probably not, so 
treat your K3 in a similar manner.
