Hello All:
I wanted to give - or chime in with - my impressions of my K3 performance with my new P3 panadapter. I run an SO2R setup with the K3 (with rebuilt TL-922A amp) as the #1 rig and my venerable FT-1000MP MkV (with 87A amp) as my #2 rig. The K3 is the only rig with a panadapter. This was my first contest after a station rebuild project which lasted over a year and a half. It felt great to get back in the saddle again and I really love RTTY as a contest mode. I use N1MM Logger as my contest software. I found the use of the panadapter was quite useful when I switched roles for the rig and used it for S&P. It was really neat to be able to spot RTTY signals on a noisy 80M band and work them quickly. I have also found that in a contest scenario, I have better luck turning off the dual peak filter and just maintaining a narrow filter skirt around both mark and space. The reason for this is that I can 'see the signal coming' when I tune for stations much easier and can quickly 'lock on' and work them. Now I wish I had a panadapter for the Mark V !
