I have switched to using A123 packs from Buddipole. Www.buddipole.com the 4s1p or 4s2p packs will do what you want. They are a little bulky but very light. You have to use the dedicated cellpro charger, which are not cheap but can recharge the pack with cell balancing in just a few minutes. These packs have a very long life. Cellpro charger is very easy to use. I have the 10s model which has a pc interface cable optional.
For internal batts for the K1 i now use Eneloop nimh 2ah, rigged with a small servo connector for recharging. They hold a charge much much longer than conventional nimh. Available cheap from www.amazon.com and they fit easily into the k1 unlike larger capacity nimh.
