It sounds like there must be something wrong with the RS-232
communications between the P3 and the K3.

The K3's serial port is supposed to be set to 38400 baud.  It it gets
set to something else the P3 is supposed to sense that and change it
back to 38400.  I would triple-check the cable.  It should just work.

Another possibility is that the "MENU:Xcvr Sel" on the P3 got set to
something other than "K3".
