I had something similar happen to me recently.
Sold a Kenwood rig from an estate, that I had checked out
for CW power on all bands. Shipped it ($42), got a note
2 days later it had "low power on 15 and 10, probably soft
finals."
So I asked the OB, "What kind of meter you using, how did you test?"
He said his Yaesu rig showed 100 watts into the same load but the
Kw only 50 w on 10m.
After getting it back and verifying 95 w on 15 and 87 w on 10 I
found out he had been using an antenna tuner and the rig was likely
throttling back.
So if you will remember, first thing Eric asked this guy was what kind
of mic are you using?
And from now on I will ask, what kind of dummy load are you using?
Looking forward to seeing the Elecraft guys in Dayton, and the big
decision to be made THIS year - sub receiver or P3, which should
it be?
