Encouraged by Gary Surrency's feedback that I can just replace it with a normal capacitor, I just went ahead and did it.. In any case, I understood from Gary that RS232 wouldn't work if I messed up, and RS232 worked totally fine, controlling the radio from Ham Radio Deluxe. So all good here now.
