I had the same experience with an Astron 50A model. I just started doing it overnight. I opened it up and narrowed it down to hum in the power transformer. I actually removed it and try to tighten the 4 bolts holding the lamination of the transformer together. I could get it to change pitch but I was unable to eliminate it. I ended up moving it to the work bench and getting a new one for the station.
