Hello George, Congratulation to your ham family. I managed to get my son to obtain his licence at the age of 16. After he got his licence, he seldom touched on the radio and in fact has spent most of his time in internet e.g. facebook, MSN etc. It is now really difficult to get new blood into this hobby. K2 is the only capable rig which can be soldered and built. If looking for through hole soldering fun, K2 could be the only choice.

For 32 years, until his death in 2002, we shared this hobby, enjoying many operating experiences, field days, hamfests, making many new friends, and the list goes on and on. Neither of us were technically orientated, but this hobby is so varied, that there is something for everyone. Dad enjoyed traffic nets and spent most of his time relaying traffic and served as net control on the 7290 traffic net for many years. As years progressed my wife, two sons, brother-in-law, two nephews, and my mother got their licenses. This is all just to say, welcome to the hobby, and may you and your Dad have many wonderful experiences. 73, George, NC5G K2/100 #2217 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
