Hi Wayne. i am going to be up on Pikes Peak for field day, hiking the trail.... It should be great... i will have my KX1 along too... i have my whip attached to a thin board, (a free paint stirrer from H. Depot). The thin board goes in my rear pocket and i usually wear a vest and the antenna goes out the arm hole... That keeps it standing pretty straight. When it is to warm for the vest, i just use a belt around my neck/under my arm, like a shoulder holster, to hold the middle part of the whip. The KX1 has a 2 foot single wire (no coax) going to the whip. 13 foot drag wire on 20M.
