A couple of years ago I had a lightening strike directly to my tower. I didn't know that there was a cloud in the sky until that happened. It not only ruined ever piece of ham equipment I had, but also got into the electrical system in the house and ruined several appliances. I was in the shack at the time, but was not using any of the equipment that was burned to a crisp, or I wouldn't be around to write this!! I was lucky that I had good insurance. It paid for all the crispy critters. So everyone should be aware of what the weather is doing outside before sitting down to operate your rig.
