It is not a fan, it is RF or other noise getting back into the mic circuit. I had the same problem. Check the two mods on the Elecraft K3 Enhancements and Application Notes page. Look for Older K3 Mods > "Front Panel Microphone" and "Improving the Immunity of the real panel RS232 and audio connectors" to see if they apply to your rig's serial number. Do both to solve your problem.
