I think the tuning relay was designed for amps. You would put it in the ptt line. I don't know of anyway to defeat the K3's internal keying. The antenna specs say it can handle 100 watts while the motors are going but I don't like to do it either. If there is a TX inhibit on the K3 then it would need to be activated while the SteppIR is moving.
I use the Microham interfaces and they are packed for J6 so I can't test and I don't recall if they inhibit the K3 while the antenna is moving.
