Try unplugging and replugging the antenna from the receiver, if you notice an increase in noise you do not need to further amplify the signal. A further amplification worsens the dynamic of the receiver. Only if you're lucky and live in a little noisy QTH you need a preamplifier at K9AY antenna or if you have a high lossy coax between the antenna and the receiver.
