It's important to remember that the plug-in filters are ROOFING filters. The function of traditional plug-in filters in other radios is provided by DSP in the K3, so we can set the IF as narrow or as wide as we desire. The primary effect ofl the plug-in filters is to protect the DSP from overload by very strong signals very close to your frequency, and in casual operation, that's not needed. You already have 2.7kHz and 1.8 kHz filter to do that. The time you need the narrow filter is during a contest, when bands are crowded with big signals. If I were you, I would try operating with the radio as is, and buy another filter only if you decide to get into contesting. I'm a serious contester, so I DO need those filters, but you probably don't need them. 73, Jim K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
