Yep. That's what we do on ships where an outside enclosure experiences huge swings in temperature in a very humid salt air environment.
If you are re-using packets, throw them in your oven on WARM for an hour to regenerate them. And you can get new desiccant on line for a few bucks (e.g. http://www.drierite.com/default.htm ) The weep hole approach works FB too for most installations as long as one realizes that teeny-tiny critters will make their home inside so you need to clean it out from time to time.
