I see in the ARRL weekly letter that the ARRL is disappointed that the FCC is not holding to the 5 WPM requirement. I do not get too excited about what the ARRL wants for I well remember what they did in the 1960's with "Incentive Licensing." However, I think they learned a hard lesson.. After the dust settled and they lost a lot of their subscribers to QST.
I am a 13WPM Extra but I well know if you want to work the DX you do it on the low end of 40 and 20. I appreciate the incentive of Elecraft because I got back on QRP again and have increased my speed from 10-13wph to 18-20 now. And, I am not stopping there. Actually as I have said before my wife is responsible for getting me started on QRP along with Elecraft because she did not want me to put a 100 watt <<706MKIIG> radio in her new Chevy Impala!! That sort of sent my brain thinking again about QRP. This time we are leaving on vacation this coming Sunday and I have my KX1 plus everything that goes with it in my attaché case. Since we are going to Fla. on the Auto Train my wife wanted to know yesterday if I thought I was going to operate on the train!! <g> I assured her I wasn't that my station would stay in the car till we got to Fla. Hope to work some of you from Fla. Since we are driving home from Fla hope to work some of you from TenTec and Tenn!!
