You will get many different responses, everyone has their favorites.

I used to use HRD/DM780 for digital modes, but more recently have 
switched to Fldigi.  HRD polls the radio too much.

Fldigi supports most all digital modes (except some of Joe Taylor's modes)

If you are looking for a logger and control of the radio from the mouse 
and keyboard, I would suggest trying the DXLab suite.  It supports RTTY 
and some data modes, but if you want more data mode selections, it 
interoperates with Fldigi.

If you are well steeped into digital modes, you may want to run HamLib 
in conjunction with Fldigi.
