Simon, Do you have another 2m receiver, or know somebody who can receive the beacon, to check whether or not the beacon's frequency is jumping. If the beacon's transmitter is crystal controlled with the crystal in an oven, the jumps in frequency you hear could be due to the beacon not your K144XV. Been there :-)
