Fred, Elecraft fixed that years ago (IIRC, shortly after Eric did the same thing when demoing the KPA100 at a busy show). You can't hurt anything by swapping cables now.
You must have had one of the very, very first KPA100s (perhaps you were an FT?) The mod is simple if you haven't made it. It inserts a capacitor in the RF line to block any DC if you reverse the connectors. Making that mod is part of building the KPA100 and the cap is supplied with the KPA100 kit (see figure 39 on page 46 of the manual). Here's the link: http://www.elecraft.com/manual/E740035%20KPA100%20man%20rev%20H.pdf You probably have a suitable cap in your junque box. 73, Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- On 4/21/2012 9:43 AM, Ron D'Eau Claire wrote: > Four plug-in cables connect the KPA100 to the K2, so you can quickly > and easily switch from the K2/10 with its ATU and internal battery (if > equipped) to a K2/100 and back again by just changing top covers. But, learn from my stupidity ... one of those cables feeds RF to the amplifier, one of them provides 12 VDC to the K2 when using the APP power connections on the amplifier. *The connectors are the same* and the cables reach to either one. Reversing them will give your day the glide angle of a brick. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2012 Cal QSO Party 6-7 Oct 2012 - www.cqp.org ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
