*Hi All, I have been testing the new settings available with the new FW.
The original settings allowed setting the AGC from 2 thru 8. The new settings allow you to increase the delay of AGC onset from 2 through 20. The effect you *hear* is that QSB becomes more rapid (expected behaviour) but the clarity of multiple signals becomes much clearer. As an example, tuning into the pileup of stations calling 7O6T enables each of the callsigns of the stations is much easier to pick out. I have not detected any mushy audio effects using a setting from 14-18 but occasionally you get a louder audio from some stations. I noticed you do have to reduce your AF gain somewhat to compensate for the increase in audio but you do this while you adjust the AGC. I have been using PF2 to switch between normal use and AGC adjustment for convenience. On 10M I had some QRN appear and activated the NB and found the NB eliminated the noise completely but did not notice any audio artifacts in audio from strong signals. I have settled on a setting of 12-14 for normal use now and I am evaluating whether this should become my *normal* setting for *daily* use. I will leave it to Wayne to respond with the relationship of the new settings to S units but it appears to me that this improvement should resolve many of the issues experienced when working a pileup with even more refinements expected in the future. My observations are a work in progress and I am sure others will alert the group as they have a chance to play with the new FW. regards, Gary * -- Gary VK4FD - Motorhome Mobile Elecraft Equipment K3 #679, KPA-500 #018 Living the dream!!! ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
