Jay,

to some degree, there is the metrology question of "how accurate are your reference sources?"; in the case of using WWV of course, it is extremely accurate (beyond both my resolution and accuracy capabilities).

To what accuracy and resolution are the frequency counter and service monitors calibrated, and are they NIST traceable? WWV is....

Of course, it is a moot point if you cannot receive WWV from there, right?

One way of getting better than "ear" on their method is to use a scope to measure the beat note, and really go for "zero"; my hearing fades so the best I could hope to claim might be +/- 20 Hz, and probably its more like +/- 60 Hz, so its the technique I use.

Going over the KX-1 manual, it calls for aligning first the BFO and then
the DDS by dialing in a strong carrier (WWV, etc) and then using the BFO
or DDS menus.
Can someone suggest some alternate alignment methods? I have a
calibrated freq counter and service monitor.

Thanks,
Jay
