This has been discussed many times before, Ron, and I believe there was a warning that the use of heavier knobs could render the Elecraft warranty nul and void. In the UK we tend to require smaller knobs, but maybe that's because we have smaller fingers ;-)

AFAIK, it's just a simple bushing - no ball or roller bearing races - so all of the wear is on the lower side of the bushing.
