I have been reading this thread with interest. I have had my K3 around four years - s/n 1397 - . It has a full complement of extras including the second receiver.
I built it myself and have never had a moment's problem with it and no knobs have broken. I added the KPA500 some months ago and that works seamlessly with my K3 (and pretty well with my TS590 - I do have other rigs). I guess I have been either very lucky or, more likely, I am in the silent majority. I am now waiting for my KAT500 to arrive.
