Thanks to all that responded. The problem was indeed the BNC cable provided by Elecraft. Wish I had posted my problem a little sooner-I would have saved a lot of time and effort. Once it was drawn to my attention I noticed that the BNC connectors on the cables provided by Elecraft had a loose fit on the K3 and P3. I Used an older cable out of my junk drawer, the BNC connectors had a tighter fit and the hash on the P3 cleaned up instantly.
