After a delay due to having misplaced the tiny hex wrench for the contact locking screw, I installed the KXPD3 upgrade today. It's easy to install, although I did lose the original spring. I think the carpet ate it. But with the lighter spring from the mod kit and close spacing, this paddle feels quite good to me. I prefer it to my Palm mini-paddle, it takes up less space in transport and it stays perfectly steady, attached as it is to the radio.
Although I usually use both reading glasses and an Optivisor when doing electronic assembly, I got through this mod with just the readers. I had no need to enlarge those holes on my board. Because of the small size of the finger pieces on this paddle, I find it easiest to send using my thumb and middle finger, with my index finger floating above the paddle. That's unrelated to the mod, of course. All things considered, I think the KXPD3 is far and away the best choice for portable use with the KX3. 73, /Rick -- Rick Tavan N6XI Truckee, CA ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
