I’m not thinking of getting out of ham radio imminently, but I’d like to get
some estimated idea of what K3s in good shape tend to be selling for. Mine:
early (desirable SN 888), all mods factory installed in 2010 – maybe not
completely up to present time, but getting there. We will look up exactly which
mods still need to be done if a deal starts looking serious. Running latest
Beta firmware without incident. Works 100% up to spec. Last Q in log is with
MO5LRO in UK on 17M CW using R-8 vertical. But used mostly on 6m with homebrew
KW amp.
This K3 has ONE fault: Audio speaker amp IC is blown (my diagnosis) and needs
to be replaced. Headphone and line-out work normally – I very rarely use
speaker, so have been unmotivated to repair. I will deduct from the price of a
perfect K3 Elecraft’s statement of the cost of fixing the speaker problem.
Some of the earliest mods made by me (done competently, I believe), rest made
at factory up to 2010.
Complement of modules, K3100-F, factory built:
o Single receiver board
o ATU board KAT3 – self-installed, works as specified
o Gen’l coverage board – KBPF3, factory-installed
o Transverter/Misc board (KXV3 – original board,
not upgraded)
o PR-6 6m preamp (external – uses KXV3 board)
o Filter, AM, 6.0 kHz, 8-pole
o Filter, SSB, 2.7 kHz, 5-pole
o Filter, SSB, 1.8 KHz, 8-pole
o Filter, CW, 400 Hz, 8-pole
o One open filter slot remaining – (was planning to
put CW 250 Hz 8-pole in it)
o Cosmetically unblemished
o Non-fracturing in-line knobs installed
o [optional] DCI 8-pole bandpass filter centered on
50 MHz, passband 49-51 MHz. VERY good quality.
< 1.0 dB insertion loss. Takes 400W RF min if SWR
is low. (External) Or, use as an RX-only device and
place ahead of PR-6 preamp to protect preamp
from strong out-of-band signals that can cause
intermod.
Make tentative offer/estimate, please. NOT FOR SALE – YET. But may be in weeks
to come.
Also FOR SALE NOW – Kenwood TS-B2000 “black box” version of TS-2000 (no front
panel controls). No longer manufactured. PLUS... RC-2000 Remote Control head
plus cables kit for mobile installation. This is the perfect mobile
transceiver; in the absence of big high-gain yagis typical of fixed-station
use, the receiver (which admittedly doesn’t have the greatest dynamic range in
the world on HF) works great, doesn’t break down using mobile antennas as it
does with large fixed-station antennas (even with ATT inline). 160m to 2m, 100W
out; 70cm, 50W out; 23cm, 10W out with add-on 1296 MHz internal, operationally
transparent transverter kit. (Don’t have it – on your own.) Make offer >
$1,100, or > $1,000 if you pick up in New Mexico. Manual, schematics, control
software, mobile control head and cables. NOT in original factory containers.
LOL Worked ~400 grids on 6m with this radio from home QTH before getting K3.
PayPal please, or cash. No checks, money orders. etc. unless you want to wait
for it to clear my bank + 1 wk after.
