I use my K3 mostly for SSB rag chew, for that reason I use the ANF (automatic notch filter) often. The ANF does eliminate interfering hetrodynes and carriers very well, however, it introduces a garbling effect to the SSB received audio. It is tolerable, but surely causes a noticeable and disappointing receive audio quality reduction.
I have other rigs with ANF and even a couple of old ANF boxes - all of which do a good job eliminating the interfering signals - generally as well as the K3's ANF. However, only the K3 introduces artifacts or garbling to the receive audio. I have been told by Elecraft, "They (other manufacturers) are no doubt using a different algorithm. Lyle has said he will look into this when he gets a chance." Not being able to leave the ANF engaged all of the time, as I do with other rigs, has reduced the pleasure of using my K3. In the interim of Lyle looking into this, has anyone found settings that workaround this problem?
