Rick,
with PREAMP off and AGC-Fast the noise is measured as follows (peak values), depending on band (quiet ) and antenna:
on 10m, on a vertical: 1.1 dbV, on the beam: 1.8 dbV
on 12m, on a vertical: 3 dbV, on the beam: 2 dbV
on 12m, on a vertical: 2 dbV, on the beam: 1 dbV
To get an idea how these values are related to S-points:
S1 indicator on: ~3dbV
S2 indicator on: ~6.5 dbV
Which means if signals are well over S1 you won't hear the noise. However, the KX3 can well receive signals "on the edge", and then it becomes distracting.

What does it measure with an antenna connected? I can barely hear it on 10M when the band is dead. If there are signals, it's inaudible.

I measured the noise on 10mtrs using the built-in audio dbV
feature - it says 11 dbV above noise (no antenna connected).
Thats a bit too much I think.
I'm also pretty sure that kind of noise wasn't as strong as now
during all these QSOs I made before...
