I believe the issue you describe is the same one I am in the process of correcting in that the power connection for the fan would not seat properly. I called Elecraft and spoke with a tech and we determined that the pins had an over run of solder down into the channel blocking full seating of the connector around the pins. I have a new fan coming that I was told was checked out and the connector will fully seat down on the pins. Elecraft took care of the problem for me in short order as usual. Only cost being a slight delay in getting KPA500 on the air.
