As a follow-up, I see a number of response that suggest all is OK if if the connector does not seat all the way down. Just to clarify, mine did not ever seat a few centimeters and the connection was clearly unreliable. Bill-W0BBI

I called Elecraft and spoke with a tech and we determined that the pins had an over run of solder down into the channel blocking full seating of the connector around the pins. I have a new fan coming that I was told was checked out and the connector will fully seat down on the pins. Elecraft took care of the problem for me in short order as usual. Only cost being a slight delay in getting KPA500 on the air.
