Your thought for the broadside/endfire array sounds like a good idea! On the other hand, I am always amazed at the amount of credence that is given to antenna modeling programs. Unless you know all of the factors and conditions of the surrounding area and environment of the antenna, these programs simply don’t work. Even at the relatively short wavelength of 20 Meters, what conductive, resistive, and capacitive objects will be within ¼ wavelength. You will have your house and outbuildings, other folks nearby homes and buildings, probably surrounding wires or plumbing within the house etc. Antennas for the UHF bands often present anomalies that are seen on otherwise barren test ranges. So if these things occur at a wavelength of 1 Meter, what do you think the environment looks like at 10 or 20 Meter wavelength? I’m sure that your new location is not so far out in the boonies that you will find it impossible to engineer your station to be able to communicate on 20 Meters etc. A good sensitive and selective receiver, along with a transmitter of adequate power, and your best antenna design ideas for your situation ought to work Ok! 73! de John
