Good Evening,
Another soggy week has passed in Oregon. The temperature in the valleys is about ten degrees F warmer than it is up here yet they too are below normal. No more snow but we need to keep the fire banked at night to guard against the chill. Tomorrow I will come home from my friend's 90th birthday party to run the net. Hopefully I won't be late but one never can tell. It is at the next door neighbor's house about five miles away so I will be close. Plus the party starts at noon. He needs to get home early ;) Then he does get up at 4:30 to 5 AM so by dark he is pretty tired. Still runs his chainsaw but he gave up dirt bikes a few years back. I hope to be in half as good a shape as him if I am lucky enough to last that long.

The bands (20, 30, and 40) were open last night around 5 PM so I enjoyed playing with my 'loaner' KX1. It is undergoing head to head tests with my ATS-3. Does pretty well if my experiments are any test. I've been trying three different antennas while using a 12 V gel cell for a power source. The tuner seems pretty handy but I have always like manual control better ;) My home brew Z match does pretty well. I should see if I can bypass the Elecraft tuner and see how it compares to my design.

Today I had a chance to listen on 20, 30, and 40 meters but it was too early for 30 to be very active. Then off to town for errands. During the coming week I hope to be on the air with the KX1 as often as I can get away from my chores and business details. I'll give it a good test against my other rigs to see how it compares. I did miss AH6RE last night on 30 when he was working stations from HI. I tried to tailend him but he was off to do some other chores and I missed him. Maybe next time Curt.
