Curt,
The comparison for longevity of the old vs. new VFO tuning pot depends
on the failure mode of your old one.
If the failure was mechanical wear to the shaft which caused the wiper
contact with the resistance wire to become erratic, then the answer is yes.
If the failure was due to wear on the resistance element from extended
use, then I would tink the life should be about the same.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to say which failure occurred, but I
would bet on the mechanical wear, so your new pot should last longer and
feel better throughout its life.

My K1 S/N 2258 started tuning with "jumps" about 6 months ago. I finally got
tired of it so replaced the pot with a new one from Elecraft. The old one was all
plastic bourns 3590s-1-104. The new one had a metal shaft. All works like new again now.
Am curious whether expected life is any better with the new as compared with the old.
BTW, while had the iron out, replaced headphone jack with broken switch for third time.
Will now leave headphones plugged in all the time.
Must say, this K1-4 is mone of my favorite portable rigs, own filters for all
bands 80-10.
