I know I am way late on this. Finally got up the courage to take Exacto knife to the filter module on my KX3. The results were gratifying. Antenna off, I previously had VFO noise on 30 through 6 meters at an annoying level. I now have much reduced noise on 17 through 6. With antenna connected and my admittedly high noise level, I used to have annoying levels from 20 through 6. I now have no detectable VFO noise. If I ever find a truly quiet spot in the suburban RF racket, I will check further. For now, I am happy.
