Hi Barry, When used with the K3, The KPA and the KAT get band data (BAND3-BAND0) from the K3. The Kenwood doesn't put out band data like that but the KPA can interrogate (poll) the Kenwood, or listen to the traffic between the Kenwood and a logging program to find frequency/band information. The KAT can't do that so it has to use the RF sensing to switch bands. Cheers. 73, Fred KE7X
