If you are using serial control of the Expert amps along with a
computer control (logging) application, the normal connection is
for the Expert amp to "snoop" on the data from the transceiver to
the computer. This connection is shown on page 45 of the 2K-FA
manual (rev 1.0). This will require three three DB9 connectors
of the appropriate gender.
Instead of serial (CAT) control for band switching, you might also
consider "band data" (BCD value) from the K3 ACC jack using the
configuration shown at the top of pate 36 of the 2K-FA manual.
Band Data has the benefit of not introducing additional conflicts
and/or reliability issues with computer control/logging applications.
The 2K-FA DB15 connector is the *large* (two row) version whilst
the K3 is the DB15HD (three row) version. The DB15 connection
will carry PTT (Key Out LP), ALC, and TX INH between the 2K-FA
and K3. Connections for the 2K-FA end are shown on pages 39-41
of the 2K-FA manual (the choice of /TX-INH or TX-INH will depend
the configuration of your K3).

Subject: [Elecraft] K3 to Expert Amp cable ?

Hello Group
My 2k-fa will be here in a week of so , in preparation I bought 2 ea DB9
Female and 2 ea DB15 male connectors (SO2R)
Here's my setup : K3 connected to computer using LP-Pan and LP-Bridge to
connect to N1MM and NAP3 ... Looking in LP-Bridge , I have a Output Com
Port #1 and #2 and on my computer I have unused DB9 ports .
My question's : Did I buy the correct DB15 connector ? Can someone
please tell me the connection from the DB9 to the DB15 ? I will not be
using ALC or the option to turn on the 2K-FA with the K3 , simply need
the CAT.
#2 K3 and computer will be setup the same.
Thanks for your help
