The Eneloop XX is a newer generation 2500mAh battery. It handles fewer recharge 
cycles (500 instead of 1500), but is still low self-discharge. Those are the 
ones I use. I strongly recommend low self-discharge for NiMH batteries. There 
are batteries with greater capacity, but after a week, they have less charge 
than the Eneloop XX.

There are lots of generations of Eneloop batteries. There is even a 2nd 
generation Eneloop XX that has 2550mAh capacity. The Wikipedia page is quite

There are a number of linear supplies in the 3-5A range. These are inexpensive 
and quiet, but weigh a few pounds. Here are a couple.
