And if it is really a performance issue (isn't for me) you can dial some of the timers, tasks and features down to be somewhat less aggressive. I run Photoshop (in 64 bit, probably the largest most intensive software I own) and don't notice any performance hit.
But whatever makes one feel safe and happy.
