If I understand you correctly, you are OK.
There were some backlight LED assemblies that had short leads, and they had to be soldered from the component side (in that case, the spacers would prevent soldering). If you put the spacers over the LED leads and were able to solder them from the solder side, then all will be well, no need to remove the spacers.
