The "Nifty Stand" is perfect for use with or without paddles. I'm a non-CW op and would not want one any shorter than it is for sure The back of the KX3 on the nifty stand is not quite 1 1/2" off my table the front almost 2" and the angle is excellent for viewing.

That sounded like a good idea so I have been working this morning on our new "Low Rider" stand. It lays flat like its big brother but it sits the KX3 lower down (about 1.25 inches from the desk).
