Scott,

When receiving in lower sideband, the AF highest tones are on the lower side of the passband display on the P3 - lower than the carrier.
The audio pitch is the difference between the carrier and the tone.
The Hi-cut moves the high end of the resulting audio, and in order for that to happen the lower edge of the passband shown on the P3 must move closer to the carrier.
