The KAT500, KPA500 and K3/P3 all use separate COM port connections. If COM3 is connected to your K3/P3, then you cannot use COM3 with either the KPA500 or the KAT500.

The USB connector between the computer and the KAT500 is a KXUSB. It is not on COM3; it is on a different COM port. If you don't know which port it is on, you can use the "Refresh Port List" button under the Port tab in the KAT500 Utility to find a list of active COM ports in your system and then try them out until you find the one that the KAT500 is on. It will not be COM3.

As for the KPA500, you can disconnect the cable from the computer to the P3 and connect it to the KPA500's RS232(PC) port, at which time the KPA500 utility will be able to connect to the KPA500 on COM3, or you can get another KUSB or equivalent and connect it to the KPA500, in which case it will be on a different COM port number (not COM3, and not the one the KAT500 is on).

I started to upgrade the firmware for my K3/P3/KAT500/KPA500 station, but I

connect to \
my computer’s COM 3. The K3 and P3 Utilities recognize COM 3 instantly.
