Because I often have the radio on while I'm doing other things around the shack. And also because I operate CW casually, and because I work various digital modes that don't require me to hear real well. For example, I need the listen to RTTY and PSK31 well enough to tune it in, but not well enough to copy it.
That's why I asked Jeff WHY he wanted to use two different mics. As a retired sound system design consultant, part of my job was getting folks to articulate their goals and needs, not in terms of equipment they thought they needed, but it terms of what they want to accomplish. From there, it was my job to match solutions to their needs.
