I was talking to an Elecraft Technical Support person last week about my plan to purchase my 2nd K3. I assembled one back in 2009, used it for about three weeks and sold it. Now. after trying numerous other bands and models, I am back looking at the K3 again. He asked why I didn't keep the 1st one and I explained that I was unable to adjust an SSB transmission to the point where the person didn't sound narrow and nasal. I, of course, called Elecraft to see if I was adjusting anything incorrectly and there seemed to be no solution at the time so I reluctantly sold it.
The Support person's comment was: "Well, I would hate to have you purchase another K3 and find that it sounds the same to you. Is there anyone near your QTH with a K3 you could visit and listen to their rig before you make the purchase?" and I said no. He looked up my zip code to see if they had any record of a nearby K3, but drew a blank. It is 19608. By chance is there anyone near Reading, PA or within an hour's drive of my QTH (Sinking Spring, PA) that would be willing to demonstrate their K3?
